Carrying the Camera Everywhere...

So I’m trying to get in the habit of my friend Noel, who carries his camera everywhere he goes. It’s definitely a challenge. Why? Because these cameras and their accessories are not light in weight! But I find that when I do haul it around, I get the unique opportunity to catch some cool pictures of family, friends and others candidly – and that’s great fun. I once tried to take part in Project 365 but it was tough and it grew frustrating and tiresome trying to get a shot to post, any shot. Sounds easy, but I found it tedious. This is a new adventure. If I see something, I shoot it. If not, no pressure, no big deal.

Fun at the Park

Living in Minnesota, you have to take advantage of the rare occurrences during the winter/pre-spring when the temperature gets about 50 degrees and get outside for some playground fun. This week we were taking some window measurements for our new house and when we finished, Asher asked if we could go to the park. Why not? So we did, and he had a blast and got wet - all at the same time.

You know what's cool about Photography?

You have an over abundance of virtually-physical (my word) memories throughout the years and easily retrievable. I started my photography journey in highschool, with the old model black-and-white SLR cameras. We had to develop our own photos and learn about and understand exposure. It was tough. In the Digital-SLR world we have the ability to shoot and shoot and shoot and shoot, and not worry about buying more film or paying for processing those photos. It’s easier. After highschool I didn’t take a lot of photos but when the digital camera era came about I started back in, probably a little late, but better late than never. Since the birth of our first child and throughout our third, my photo collection is near 14,000 photos and I’m thankful for great photo cataloging software to make better use of the many photos we have collected.

So what’s great about photography? What’s great about DSLR’s and really great glass? Simple answer? This (below). I get to take pictures that look pretty decent throughout the years of our family and watch them grow, digitally. Yeah, some don’t come out polished like the kind you would put on a magazine cover but to me/us, they are a priceless artifact which we’ll enjoy for many years to come.
